Competitive Exam Syllabus 2026 and Exam Pattern
The section-wise syllabus for twelve major Indian competitive examinations, transcribed from the commissions’ own scheme-and-syllabus documents — marks, duration, negative marking and every listed topic, paper by paper. Each page links straight to the previous year papers for that exam, so you can read the syllabus and then test yourself on it.
Civil services and state PCS
Three-stage examinations with a descriptive Mains and an optional subject.
UPSC CSE Syllabus 2026
Civil Services Examination
The Civil Services Examination selects officers for the IAS, IPS, IFS and the central services. It runs in three stages: a two-paper objective Preliminary examination that is purely a screening test, a nine-paper descriptive Main examination that carries the merit, and a Personality Test. The Preliminary marks do not count towards the final ranking.
BPSC Syllabus 2026
Bihar Combined Competitive Examination
The Bihar Combined Competitive Examination follows the same three-stage shape as the UPSC and other state commissions: a single 150-mark objective Prelims paper, a four-paper descriptive Mains, and an interview. What sets it apart is how much of the syllabus is explicitly about Bihar — the history, geography, economy and freedom-movement sections all name the state separately from India.
SSC and railways
Multi-tier objective examinations for central government Group B, C and Level-1 posts.
SSC CGL Syllabus 2026
Combined Graduate Level Examination
SSC CGL is a two-tier computer based examination for Group B and Group C posts across central government ministries. Tier-I is a common 100-question screening test; Tier-II carries the whole of the final merit and is split into Paper-I (compulsory for every post) and Paper-II (Statistics, only for Junior Statistical Officer and Statistical Investigator Grade-II applicants).
RRB NTPC Syllabus 2026
Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) Recruitment
RRB NTPC recruits for non-technical posts — from Junior Clerk and Accounts Clerk at the undergraduate level to Station Master, Goods Guard and Traffic Assistant at the graduate level. The 1st Stage CBT is common to every notified post and purely a screening test; the 2nd Stage CBT is held separately for each 7th CPC pay level, with graded difficulty.
RRB Group D Syllabus 2026
RRB Group D (CEN Level-1) Recruitment
RRB Group D fills Level-1 posts across the Indian Railways — track maintainer, assistant pointsman, helper and similar roles. Selection turns on a single 100-question computer based test followed by a Physical Efficiency Test, so the CBT is where the shortlist is really decided. Reasoning carries the largest single share at 30 questions.
Banking
Prelims-Mains-Interview recruitment for probationary officer posts.
SBI PO Syllabus 2026
State Bank of India Probationary Officer Recruitment
SBI runs its own Probationary Officer examination rather than using the IBPS common process. Prelims is a 100-question sectionally-timed screening test; Mains adds Data Analysis & Interpretation in place of plain quantitative aptitude, a heavy General/Economy/Banking Awareness section and a descriptive English paper. Group Exercise and Interview follow.
IBPS PO Syllabus 2026
Common Recruitment Process for Probationary Officer / Management Trainee
IBPS PO is the common recruitment process that fills Probationary Officer and Management Trainee vacancies across participating public sector banks. Prelims is qualifying only; the Mains objective test plus the descriptive paper decide 80% of the final merit, with the interview contributing the remaining 20%.
Teaching and eligibility tests
Eligibility tests and teacher recruitment examinations, central and state.
CTET Syllabus 2026
Central Teacher Eligibility Test
CTET certifies eligibility to teach in central government schools and in many state and private schools. Paper 1 is for candidates who intend to teach Classes I–V, Paper 2 for Classes VI–VIII. Both papers are 150 multiple-choice questions in 150 minutes with no negative marking. In Paper 2 a candidate chooses either Mathematics and Science or Social Studies / Social Science for the 60-mark subject block.
UPTET Syllabus 2026
Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test
UPTET establishes eligibility to teach in primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh. Paper 1 is for Classes 1 to 5 and Paper 2 for Classes 6 to 8. The two papers share the same core — child development, two languages and pedagogy — and differ in the subject block: Paper 1 tests Mathematics and Environmental Studies, while Paper 2 replaces them with a 60-question Science and Mathematics or Social Science block.
SUPER TET Syllabus 2026
Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination (सहायक अध्यापक भर्ती परीक्षा)
SUPER TET is the recruitment examination for assistant teacher posts in Uttar Pradesh basic schools — the stage a UPTET-qualified candidate reaches next. The revised structure is a single 150-question paper over 150 minutes, and its weighting is unusual: General Knowledge and Current Affairs alone carries 30 marks and Language 40, so the two together are nearly half the paper.
UP TGT Syllabus 2026
Trained Graduate Teacher (प्रशिक्षित स्नातक) Recruitment Examination
UP TGT recruits Trained Graduate Teachers for aided secondary schools in Uttar Pradesh, one paper per subject. Each paper is 100 objective questions of two marks each in two hours — roughly 30 on General Knowledge and 70 on the chosen subject, with no negative marking. This page carries the Board's Social Science (subject code 09) syllabus in full, whose four strands — Geography, History, Economics and Civics — are answered two at a time.
DSSSB TGT Syllabus 2026
Trained Graduate Teacher Recruitment (One-Tier Technical Examination)
DSSSB recruits Trained Graduate Teachers for Delhi government schools through a one-tier computer based examination in two sections. Section A is the general paper — awareness, reasoning, arithmetic and two languages — and is common across TGT posts. Section B is the subject paper, set at graduation level in the subject applied for, and carries the larger share of the marks.
A syllabus is a checklist, not a study plan
Every topic on these pages has been asked in a real paper at some point, but not equally often. The fastest way to see which parts of a syllabus actually carry marks is to sit a past paper and read the topic-wise breakdown afterwards.
