UPTET Syllabus 2026 and Exam Pattern

UPTET establishes eligibility to teach in primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh. Paper 1 is for Classes 1 to 5 and Paper 2 for Classes 6 to 8. The two papers share the same core — child development, two languages and pedagogy — and differ in the subject block: Paper 1 tests Mathematics and Environmental Studies, while Paper 2 replaces them with a 60-question Science and Mathematics or Social Science block.

UPTET Paper 1 — Primary Level (Classes 1 to 5) syllabus

Five sections of 30 questions each. The syllabus follows the NCERT books for Classes I to V. Maths and EVS test facts, concepts and awareness of the subject; the language papers examine instructional skill rather than literary depth.

Environmental Studies (EVS)

UPTET Paper 2 — Upper Primary Level (Classes 6 to 8) syllabus

Child Development and Pedagogy and the two language papers stay at 30 questions each. The remaining 60 questions come from either Science and Mathematics or Social Science, depending on what the candidate intends to teach.

What score qualifies in UPTET?+

60% of 150 marks. There is no negative marking, so every question is worth attempting.

How do UPTET Paper 1 and Paper 2 differ?+

The core is the same — Child Development and Pedagogy plus two languages, 30 questions each. Paper 1 then tests Mathematics and Environmental Studies at 30 questions each; Paper 2 replaces those with a single 60-question block in either Science and Mathematics or Social Science.

Which languages can I choose for Language II?+

English, Urdu or Sanskrit. Language I is Hindi.

Is UPTET expected to change in 2026?+

The Commission has signalled a shift towards conceptual and scenario-based questions on teaching methods, learning and education policy, with greater weight on pedagogy, and problem-solving framing in Mathematics, Science and EVS. These changes are not final until the official notification PDF is published.
